The other day the missus told me about this famous shop that sells tomato beef noodles. Apparently this is really famous because of these beef noodles with tomato.
I am not a fan of tomato on anything but the missus likes it so its all good. I haven't seen these kind of tomato noodles around Taipei, although I don't look for anything with tomato in because its the devils food, and I can't stand it so they could be around everywhere, or they could not.
The missus tried it and said it was excellent. She said the soup didn't even taste so tomatoey if I wanted to give it a blast. So I figured if its not too tomatoey why the hell not. Here it goes, the minging, horrid tomato flavour in my mouth.
As it turned out, the missus was right. The tomato flavour was quite light thank the lord and actually didn't taste too bad. It wouldn't actually order it myself, but as someone who hates tomato I could still actually eat it and enjoy the taste. So that can only tell you one thing, that it was bloody excellent surely. If full on anti mr tomato can eat it, and not think it tastes too terrible.
The meat inside was massive big chunks of beef. They were some of the biggest chunks of beef I have seen in any kind of beef noodles here. They were huge. The amount of beef inside was an excellent portion size too, they clearly didn't scrimp and scrape on the beef added to their noodles.
The noodles were handcut, and tasted excellent. Handcut noodles are superb, make sure you get a chance to try them at some point. This shop cuts them very well and they add to the tomato beef noodles. The dish was excellent, even for someone like me who dislikes tomato. If you go here make sure you order these bad boys.
I ordered the fried noodles, they took a while to come roughly 15-20 minutes. The shop will always tell you how long they expect you to wait so this means you can decide if you would like to wait or leave. We decided to wait and i'm glad I did. The noodles used for the fried noodles were also the handcut kind. It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it and i'm not that keen on fried noodles either. These ones however I did enjoy alot.
They were cut in the style of the thick wide Taiwanese noodles. That's probably why I liked them a lot, those thick Taiwanse noodles are my favourites. Theres a lot of veg, meat and noodles all mixed together in this with a bit of egg. I would order this again.
We also ordered a Cong You Bing, and that was bloody brilliant too. It was thicker than normal I thought and a little less greasy. I'd advise you to order this too if you feel like you can eat a few things.
If your around Taipei station area, or Shandao Temple make sure you check it out. because it was worth it.
