Facebook - Dim Dim Sum Taiwan
Last week me and the missus eventually managed to try this popular dim sum restaurant that is tucked away down in the basement of the new Breeze Centre building at Taipei City Hall.
A couple of times we have walked past and there has been a queue which has scared us off. Due to having a bit more free time now, we can actually manage to try out places when they are queue free which is excellent in a city like Taipei.
I absolutely love dim sum, so I couldn't wait to try this place seeing as how popular it has looked each time we passed it. Their logo, the kung fu pig also draws your attention instantly.
The queue on a Tuesday afternoon was non existent really, like I said so we got sat down very quickly. The missus did her magic in ordering, then I just had to sit back and wait to see what would appear. I don't worry mind, as we eat dim sum a lot and she knows the kind of things I like.
We were not sure what size the tea would be, but considering it was a little bit pricey we should of realised it was not just a small cup. Thats the only thing I really discussed at the ordering point.
As it turned out, the tea came first, it was big enough for two people and refillable. They actually had the pot full with tea leaves which was a good sign that it will be decent. The pot it came in was odd. You pressed it down on your cup and it was like it was taking a piss in the cup. Either way the tea was very good. I really liked it and thought it was worth ordering, we ordered the cheaper of the two teas. If or when I go back I might order the more expensive one to see the difference.
Next to come out was the main dish we ordered, chicken and mushroom in rice. As a main dish the bowl/plate was a little small I thought but it did taste brilliant. I ended up trying to speed eat the damn thing to eat more than it than the missus without her noticing I enjoyed it that much. A little bit of a snidey tactic but you have got to do what you have got to do when sharing I suppose.
Next the dimsum started rolling out, and the missus had ordered all the usual things that I like. Pineapple buns, meatballs, cream buns, raddish cake, and she ordered some seafood dim sum.
The cream buns were great, it was amazing how they made them into the shape of their logo. The buns acutally looked like little pigs. They tasted very good. They are currently some of the better cream buns that I have had in Taipei. If you go there be sure to order these.
The pineapple buns with butter inside I normally like very much, but the way they done them here was a little different or special which ever way you look at it. They put little bits of cut pineapple inside instead of the butter. I wasn't too fond of this as it made them way to sickly even for me and I have a very sweet tooth.
The meatballs I really enjoyed. The missus didn't like them so I munched down the lot of them. There's not much not to like about meatballs really. I would recommend them, the missus wouldn't. I am a massive meat eater, she isn't. Take your recommendation from that is all I can say.
The raddish cake was spot on, and so it bloody should be. It is a staple dish of any dim sum. I know you can get it anywhere cheaply but thats not the point. It is good to try it at every place so you can compare. Here they made it well, there was nothing to be faulted with it. If you want to be a good dim sum restaurant you really need to make good raddish cake. Here they have succeeded in that task.
The missus enjoyed her seafood dim sum. I am not a big fan of prawns and such, if I eat it I would probably throw up all over her, her food and others in the restaurant which is never a good thing really. So I just have to take her word for it that it was good.
All in all this was a good place to eat and I really enjoyed it here. The restaurant's staff were also great too and offered excellent service throughout our meal. Which was an added bonus.
