Taiwan face Mongolia in Preparation for Crucial Asian Cup Qualifier

Article Date: 04-10-2017

Taiwan will be looking to make a good start as new manager Gary White kicks off the self-proclaimed ‘football revolution of Taiwan.”

White has started well by setting up a friendly against Mongolia, often Taiwan won’t have any friendly games in preparation for competitive matches.

With Mongolia being ranked a lowly 191st in the Fifa World Rankings it gives Taiwan a chance to boost morale before their crucial home fixture against Bahrain in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. Everyone knows Fifa’s ranking system is not a good gauge of how good or bad a team will be, but if the result goes according to the rankings then Taiwan should win comfortably.

Mongolia aren’t an equal to Bahrain in quality, but this is another smart move by White. If morale can be boosted by a healthy win against the Mongolians then some of that positivity could carry over to the Asian Cup Qualifier and Taiwan really do need a morale boost before facing Bahrain again after they were schooled and taught a lesson in the 5-0 thumping in the reverse fixture last month.

With three games gone in the qualifying campaign Taiwan amazingly are still within a fighting chance of qualifying for the finals due to their away win against Singapore. There are three games remaining, two at home vs Bahrain and Singapore, if they can get two wins at home they could possibly have one foot in the finals.

It’s a massive task for them to achieve, but it’s over to proven miracle worker Gary White to sprinkle his star dust on the campaign and achieve the unthinkable.
